Steering Committee met on August 17, 2010 in Port au Prince

Funding recommended for two projects (adding US$ 30) and Canada signed agreement to contribute with US$30 million to the multi-donor fund

The Haiti Reconstruction Fund’s Steering Committee met in Port au Prince on August 17 2010 to consider two funding requests submitted by the Interim Haiti Recovery Commission (IHRC). The first to put in place a debris removal and recycling system in Port au Prince. This project will be implemented by a consortium of agencies led by the UN. The total cost is US $ 16.95 million fully funded by the HRF. The second one aims to establish a partial credit guarantee fund for enterprise development. This project will be co-funded by the Inter-American Development Bank (with a contribution of $20 million), the World Bank (with a contribution of US$ 2.5 million) and the HRF (with a contribution of $12.5 million).

During this meeting, the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) signed an agreement with the International Development Association (IDA), HRF´s trustee, to transfer US$ 30 million. The government of Oman had also contributed with US$ 5 million early in August. These contributions bring the total amount of contributions received by this multi-donor fund to $ 135 million. It is expected that this sum rises to US $ 260 given the announcements of the United States and France, made during the SC meeting, of contributing with US$ 100 and US$ 30 million, respectively. The Fund expects to receive up to $ 500 based on pledges made in previous international summits.
